Post-doc on 3D Scene and Human-Pose Estimation
- (2400001R)
Commitment & contract: Post Doc position for two years
Location: Center for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIS), Genoa, Italy
WHO WE AREAt IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centers around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.
YOUR TEAM
You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where mechatronic, biomedical, and electronic engineers together with neuroscience, robotic, and computer vision experts collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.
The Event-driven Perception for Robotics Research line is coordinated by Chiara Bartolozzi, who has extensive experience in developing robots, systems and sensors using neuromorphic engineering to achieve highly responsive, low-latency, and low energy consuming autonomous applications inspired by biological counterparts. The group’s research focuses on developing novel sensors and algorithms for autonomous robots with multiple sensory modalities, including vision and tactile.
The project is in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work together with their researchers and engineers to achieve professional and practical outcomes and receive feedback and guidance.
Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:
- Development of novel fast and lightweight algorithms for stereo vision with event cameras. Event cameras produce asynchronous, sparse data making them ideal for fast moving robotic or wearable electronics tasks. Associating data between two asynchronous event streams requires unconventional thinking and novel design.
- Development of novel fast and lightweight algorithms for 3D scene estimation and/or human pose estimation. The sparse event camera data lends itself to novel scene representations and designing lightweight algorithms requires a fine balance between state-of-the-art, robust, data-driven learning techniques while taking advantage of known vision models to achieve high speed solutions.
- Deployment of algorithms for real-time experiments. We use real hardware – cameras and robotic platforms to demonstrate and evaluate the algorithms practical functionality in addition to thorough comparison to state-of-the-art.
