Workplace Description
The Centre on Sustainable Energy (SE) supports the development of devices and methods for generation, storage, and distribution of energy solutions at low environmental impact. This will be done in the perspective of energy sustainability, of systems and solutions that respect the environment and the quality of life, of solutions with a lower impact on health and on environmental pollution levels.The ground for the Centre on “Sustainable Energy” is based on the Decarbonization targets, which will demand for more flexibility of the energy system, through new gas and power grids and using energy vectors and storage solutions, as enablers for the wide penetration of renewables.
The HYdrogen Technologies and Resilient Energy Systems (HyRES) Unit is dedicated to research and development, and it is at the forefront of promoting hydrogen technology and resilient energy systems. With a primary focus on hydrogen, the unit works diligently to innovate the future energy grid, making it more intelligent and capable of integrating renewable sources.Ensuring energy resilience and security is a central goal, particularly in collaboration with industrial partners. The research encompasses numerous aspects, including hydrogen production, storage and final uses, all with the overarching aim of reducing the carbon footprint of energy systems and positively impacting the energy market, making it more sustainable and secure for the future.
Background information and description of research projects
This position will be included in the framework of IPCEI Hy2Tech in FBK. FBK is involved in all the specific technical fields (TF) of IPCEI Hy2Tech , with the final scope to support the European H2 value chain and industry from TRL 3 to TRL7-8.
The main activities involve: co-design and co-engineering of technologies.
(joint) Laboratory facilities, enabling validation and testing of technologies components, blocks, materials and strategies for multiscale power and several conditions.Safety and controls: introducing proper design for safe technologies in hydrogen sector, with digital tools at the support of new products and/or new processes.
Control development based on dynamic simulation.
Verified with SiL (Software In the Loop) and Hil (Hardware In the Loop) approach, and Territorial implementation for technologies and different end uses in industry, mobility, and territorial ecosystem.
Job Description - Profile 1
The HyRES unit is looking for a technologist with competence and knowledge in morphology and elementary characterization.The working figure will be responsible for:
Morphology and elementary characterization of sample for H2 sector; Performing characterization activities, especially on morphology; Preparing and submitting reports on analysis of materials; Preparing specifications for the purchase of equipments and follow installation and commissioning; Proposing novel solutions of analytical characterization for H2 and introducing novel and state-of art technologies, or novel equipment, procedures and protocols; Managing and maintaining operational equipment (e.g. BET and SEM); Elaborating experimental data and investigating trends/correlations between micro material proprieties (porosity, surface area, etc..) and macro features of components (electrical conductivity, permeability, etc....) in collaboration with the testing teams, and simulation teams for modeling development; Producing reports, deliverables, technical reviews and scientific publications; Participating in the preparation of the project’s proposal.
Job requirementsThe Ideal Candidate should have:
Master’s degree in chemistry, Material science, Physics or similar; Know-how in material characterization techniques (i.e. SEM, AFM, XPS, contact angle measurements, gas physisorption and chemisorption); Experience in sample preparations and good practice in a chemical lab; Familiarity with heterogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis, water splitting and H2 sector; Proven experience in material chemistry; Language assessment according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): level of knowledge required.

The HyRES unit is looking for a technologist with competence and knowledge in chemical analysis of liquid and gas samples.The working figures will be responsible for:
Supporting chemometrics efforts of the group in data analysis and experiment design; Characterization and analysis of liquid and gas samples either online or ex-situ of electrocatalysis experiments and non-electrochemical technologies; Elaborating experimental data and investigating trends/correlations between trace of contaminants or mixture ratio with degradation in H2 technology in collaboration with the testing teams, and simulation teams for modeling development; Proposing novel solutions of analytical characterization for H2, introducing novel and state-of art technologies, or novel equipment, procedures and protocols; Preparing specifications for the purchase of equipment and follow installation and commissioning; Preparing and submitting reports on analysis of materials; Managing and maintaining operational chromatographic and mass spectrometric systems; Producing reports, deliverables, technical reviews and scientific publications; Participating in the preparation of the project’s proposal.
Job requirementsThe Ideal Candidate should have: Master’s degree in chemistry, Material science, Physics or similar.
Know-how in Chemometrics, Chemical Analysis (GC, MS, ICP-MS, etc.).Experience sample preparations and good practice in the chemical lab.
Familiarity with heterogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis, water splitting and H2 sector.
Proven experience in analytical chemistry, material chemistry.

Selection process and assessment criteriaThe Evaluating Committee will be appointed by the HR Director at the end of the application deadline.

Candidates with a minimum score will be admitted to the interview phase. Evaluation criteria
The recruitment process will be based on the total points obtained by the evaluation of the qualifications/ expertise and the evaluation of the interview.A maximum of 40 points will be allocated for qualifications and expertise that the candidate expresses on the resume, while the interview will be worth up to 60 points.
The interview scores will be assigned to candidates by the Commission according to the following criteria: the presentation of their personal profile; the knowledge about the scientific domain, the experience in working for research projects and the language skills.
Only candidates obtaining at least 25 points in the evaluation of the qualifications and the expertise will be admitted for the interview.
The interview is considered as “passed” if the applicant obtains at least 45 points. The final score will be used to generate the final suitability list for each job position.
Results of the selection process
All candidates will be notified via email once the selection process has been completed.
